Johns Hopkins Falls at Brown and Babson in Spring Opener

PROVIDENCE, RI – Johns Hopkins opened its spring season on Saturday with a pair of matches at Brown and Babson. In the morning, Hopkins dropped a 7-0 decision at Brown and then lost a tight 4-3 match at 14th-ranked Babson.
 
Brown picked up the doubles' point with wins at first and second to take the early lead in the match. Dani Ben-Abraham and Hannah Shen won 6-3 over Sophia Kim and Sydney Langer at one. Claire Loftus and Sahana Madala picked up a 6-3 win over Francesca Saroli and Bella Hu at three. Abigail Lee and Chloe Qin then secured the point with a close 7-6 (5) win over Ava Li and Kamila Wong at two.
 
In singles, Shen rallied to take a 4-6, 6-0, 1-0 )12) win over Kim at one. Lee won at two over Sahana Sanjeev 6-4, 6-0 and Ben-Abraham beat Langer 6-1, 6-1 at three. Sari Woo defeated Aubrey Zhou 6-1, 6-3 at four and Anne Yang won 6-2, 6-2 over Isabel He at five. And at six, Saroli won a tight one, 7-6 (4), 7-5 over Karah Li.
 
Babson grabbed wins at first and third doubles to take the first point of the match. Matia Cristiani and Sandra Sikharulidze beat Sophia Kim and Lia Melvin, 6-2, at one. Sarai Dorismond and Han Wang then clinched the doubles' point with a 6-2 win over Claire Loftus and Sahana Madala. Kamila Wong and Ava Li grabbed a win when they beat Alessandra Cristiani and Elizabeth Shu, 6-4, at three.
 
In singles, Matia Cristiani put Babson up 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Melvin at number one. Wong answered with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Dorismond at four to make it a 2-1 match. Madala then tied the match when she beat Tina Liu 6-1, 6-0 at five. Shu put the Beavers back on top with a 6-4, 7-6 win over Loftus at three. Sikharulidze then clinched the win when she won a tight 7-6, 7-6 match over Li at two. Sydney Langer closed out the match with a come-from-behind win over Wang 1-6, 6-2, 7-5.
 
Hopkins returns to action on February 8 with a scrimmage versus Towson.
