Hopkins, Loyola Meet for the 62nd Time

The Game
•  Johns Hopkins welcomes Loyola to Homewood Field for the Blue Jays' third consecutive home game to start the 2026 season.
• Faceoff for the 62nd renewal of the Battle of Charles Street is set for 1:02 pm (ESPN+).

When Last We Saw Them
•  Johns Hopkins made it two straight in the win column as the Blue Jays topped Towson, 13-11, on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 10).
• Loyola made its season debut last Saturday at Maryland and dropped a 19-10 decision to the top-ranked Terps.

The Facts
•  This is the 139th season of Johns Hopkins men's lacrosse.  JHU first fielded a team in 1883.
•  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 1,035-383-15 (.727).
• Johns Hopkins is the only men's lacrosse program in the nation with 1,000 or more all-time victories.  The Blue Jays picked up the program's 1,000th victory with an 11-10 win over Loyola on February 19, 2022.
•  JHU owns 44 national championships with nine NCAA titles, 29 USILA titles and six ILA crowns to its credit.

• Johns Hopkins checks in at number 15 in the KANE Inside Lacrosse Media Poll and number 16 in the USILA Coaches Poll and the USA Lacrosse Poll this week.

• Including this week's poll, the USILA has issued 569 polls since the debut poll in 1973.  Johns Hopkins has appeared in the top 20 in 544 of those 569 polls and has been ranked in the top 10 in 452 of the 568.

•  Johns Hopkins is 2-0 for the second consecutive season and the fourth time in six seasons under head coach Peter Milliman.

Nice to be Home
•  Johns Hopkins will play its third home game of the 2026 season this week against Loyola.  In 14 games last season, the Blue Jays played just five times at Homewood Field.

Against the Patriot League
• This week's game against Loyola will be the 263rd all-time for Johns Hopkins against a team currently in the Patriot League.
•  Johns Hopkins is 198-63-1 (.758) all-time against current Patriot League members.

It's Been a While
• In the win against Robert Morris, Hunter Chauvette (6) and Matt Collison (5) became the first Johns Hopkins duo to score five or more goals in a game since March 27, 1999, when Dylan Schlott (5) and Conor Denihan (5) both scored five in a 16-15 win against Virginia.
 • Also in the win against Robert Morris, Collison became the first Johns Hopkins midfielder to post a five-goal game since Paul Rabil had six against Syracuse in the 2008 national championship game.
• The two goals Johns Hopkins allowed against Robert Morris are the fewest since the Blue Jays topped Mount St. Mary's 17-2 on April 14, 2014.
• Robert Morris had a scoring drought of 38:11, the longest by a Blue Jay opponent since Mount St. Mary's went 44:56 without scoring in the 17-2 game noted above on April 14, 2014.
Charlie Iler (4) and Chuck Rawson (4) became the first Blue Jay tandem with four or more assists in a game since Jacob Angelus (5) and Russell Melendez (4) both had 4+ in a win against Bryant in the first round of the 2023 NCAA Tournament.

Freshman Starters
Dash Lamitie (G), Max Wickersham (A) and Parker Sorenson (D) all started in the win against Robert Morris.  This was the first time Johns Hopkins has started three or more freshmen in a season opener since 2002, when Kyle Barrie (A), Kyle Harrison (M), Peter LeSueur (A) and Chris Watson started in an 8-5 season-opening win against Princeton.
• Lamitie became the first Johns Hopkins freshman to start a season opener in goal since Jesse Schwartzman got the nod in a 10-9 win against Penn in the 2004 opener.
• Wickersham became the first Johns Hopkins freshman to start a season opener on attack since Brendan Grimes started against Ohio State in the 2021 opener.
• Sorenson became the first Johns Hopkins freshman to start a season opener on defense since Jack Rapine started against Navy in the

Strange But True
•  The Blue Jays got pole goals from Tyler Eye and Parker Sorenson while faceoff specialist Joe Hobot also scored in the 13-11 win against Towson.
• Prior to this, the last time the Blue Jays got two pole goals and a goal from their faceoff specialist in the same game was on February 4, 2025 .... also against Towson.

Returning Production
• Johns Hopkins returns players who accounted for 71.6% of the team's goals (101-of-141), 77.9% of the team's assists (67-of-86) and 74% of the team's points (168-of-227) from 2025.

Don't Leave Early
• Fans at Johns Hopkins lacrosse games shouldn't leave early as it's likely the game will be decided in the final 10 minutes.
• 11 of Johns Hopkins' 14 games last season were decided by three goals or less with five, one-goal games and six, three-goal games.  Only three Johns Hopkins game last season - an 11-6 win against Georgetown, a 14-10 loss to Ohio State and a 10-4 loss at Penn State - were decided by more than three goals.
• Close games are nothing new for the Blue Jays under head coach Peter Milliman.  Dating back to the start of the 2023 season (a span of 50 games), the Blue Jays have played 31 games that have been decided by three goals or less, including 15, one-goal games, six games decided by two goals and 10 others that have been decided by three goals.
• Since the start of the 2024 season (32 games), 23 Blue Jay games have been decided by three goals or less with 11 decided by one goal, four decided by two goals and eight decided by three goals

Offensive Notes of Interest
• Since the start of the 2022 season, the Blue Jays are 30-6 when they score 12 or more goals.
• The 17 goals the Blue Jays scored against Robert Morris are the most in a season opener since 1990, when JHU scored 20 in a 20-8 win against Princeton.
• The 30 goals the Blue Jays have scored through two games are the most through the first two games of a season for Johns Hopkins since 2017, when JHU scored 15 in back-to-back wins against Navy and UMBC for 30 through two games as well.
• In eight quarters this season, the Blue Jays have scored at least two goals in all eight quarters, three or more goals in six quarters and four  or more goals in five quarters.
