BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team turned in standout performances Friday at the Tufts Cupid Challenge and the Widener Indoor Classic, posting some of the top marks in Division III this season and in program history.
The Distance Medley Relay quartet of
Emma Kothari,
Lianne Saussy,
Ani Wedemeyer and
Mackenzie Setton delivered the highlight of the day at Tufts. The Blue Jays crossed first in 11:48.90, and their converted time of 11:41.39 ranks as the fastest in Division III this season, the third-fastest in school history and the 21
st-fastest performance in Division III history.
Claudia Ouimet also impressed in the pentathlon, placing fourth overall with 3,564 points — the third-highest total in program history. The sophomore was especially strong in the 60-meter hurdles and shot put. She finished second in the hurdles with a personal-best 8.81, a mark that ranks third in school history and eighth nationally this season. In the shot put, Ouimet recorded a personal-best throw of 11.74 meters (38-6.25), which stands as the ninth-farthest mark in program history.
At the Widener Indoor Classic,
Erika Ezumba and
Phoebe Williams paced the Blue Jays in the throws.
Ezumba placed second in the weight throw with a mark of 18.64 meters (61-2), the farthest throw by a Division III athlete in the event. Williams followed in third with a personal-best 17.49 meters (57-4.75), which ranks ninth nationally this year and second in program history.
Hopkins capped the meet with two top-10 finishes in the shot put. Ezumba finished second with a throw of 13.14 meters (43-1.5), while Williams placed ninth at 12.04 meters (39-6).
Kellen Ievers added a 19
th-place finish with a mark of 11.13 meters (36-6.25).
Johns Hopkins returns to action Saturday, February 14, for the second day of the Widener Indoor Classic and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. Events at the Ott Center are scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m., with competition in Boston set for 9:00 a.m.
