Paige Willard have been honored by the Big Ten for their performances last week. Hopkins earned wins over 19
th-ranked Loyola (14-8) and at 14
th-ranked Duke (14-13) to improve to 3-0 on the season.
O'Brien was named the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week for the first time this season and second time in her career. She led the Blue Jays with 11 caused turnovers and nine ground balls in the two wins last week. She caused five turnovers and picked up six ground balls in the win over Loyola. O'Brien and the Blue Jay defense held the Greyhounds to just eight goals and 13 shots on goal. She then caused six turnovers and grabbed three ground balls in a double overtime win at Duke.
Willard was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week for the first time in her career. She led Hopkins with six goals and four assists in the two wins. She also tallied two ground balls and two caused turnovers. Willard scored two goals and assisted on two more, to go with two ground balls and a caused turnover, in the win over Loyola. She followed that with four goals, two assists and a caused turnover at Duke. It was her first career hat trick and the six points are the most by a Blue Jay freshman since March 2023.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 21 at 14
th-ranked Penn. Opening draw at Franklin Field is slated for 3:30 pm.
