Middle-Distance Stars Lead Blue Jays at Fastrack National Invite

Hopkins Earned Three Event Wins, 18 Top-10 Finishes

STATEN ISLAND, NY – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team delivered another strong performance Friday at the Fastrack National Invite at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex, competing against a deep field that included programs from all three NCAA divisions.
 
Senior Emma Kothari led the way in the 800-meter, pacing a group of seven Blue Jays who finished among the top-25 in a field of 107 competitors. Kothari was the first Division III runner to cross the line, finishing second overall with a personal-best time of 2:12.32. The mark ranks as the fifth-fastest time in Division III this season and the third-fastest in program history.
 
Right behind her, freshman Ani Wedemeyer placed third overall with a personal-best 2:13.45. Wedemeyer was the second Division III finisher and the first freshman in the field, recording the 10th-fastest time nationally this season and the fourth-fastest in school history. Diana Valentini followed in seventh place, posting a personal-best 2:14.98, which ranks 19th nationally and seventh all-time at Hopkins. Lorna Arcese finished 13th (2:18.40 | 72nd nationally), while Lily Tremba (18th | 2:21.12), Sofia Fernandez (21st | 2:21.45 | PR) and Emily Roskowski (22nd | 2:21.92) rounded out the Blue Jays' top-25 finishes.
 
The middle-distance success continued in the mile, where Mackenzie Setton led five Blue Jays into the top-25. Setton placed fourth overall with a personal-best 4:50.70, the fourth-fastest time in Division III this season and the fourth-fastest in program history. Freshman Mia Kotler placed 13th in 5:00.44, the 35th-fastest time nationally this year. Elena Blodnikar finished 15th with a personal-best 5:03.52 (56th nationally), followed by Natalie Boquist in 18th with a personal-best 5:06.45 (81st nationally). Aisling Callahan completed the group with a 23rd-place finish in 5:09.92.
 
Hopkins also shined in the sprints, recording six top-10 finishes across the dash events. Ellie Lewis highlighted the effort with a win in the 60-meter Open, crossing the line in a personal-best 8.03. Anna Zinsser followed closely in second (8.06 | PR), while Leah Valentine placed fourth with a personal-best 8.07.
 
In the 60-meter Invite, Mirra Klimov finished sixth with a time of 7.86, the 31st-fastest mark in Division III this season, while Chloe Zhang placed seventh in 7.90 (93rd nationally). Lewis added another strong performance in the 200-meter, finishing 11th in 26.12, while Gabrielle Moore placed 19th with a personal-best 26.34.
 
Moore continued her standout meet in the 400-meter, placing seventh overall in a field of 110 athletes. She was the first Division III runner and first freshman to cross the line, posting a personal-best 58.54. The time ranks 65th nationally this season and sixth all-time in Hopkins history. Madison Moore also recorded a top-25 finish, placing 22nd in 1:00.11.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Ryan Bigelow, Ava Zimmerman, Wedemeyer and Hanna Bruno placed fifth with a time of 4:05.59. To close out the track events, Jaclyn Donoho placed 12th in the 60-meter hurdles (9.98), while Evelyne Kim finished 21st in 10.48.
 
In the field events, Erika Ezumba and Clarissa Newman led the way with event victories. Ezumba won the weight throw with a mark of 18.35 meters (60-2), while Phoebe Williams placed third with a personal-best throw of 16.94 meters (55-7). Williams' mark ranks ninth nationally this season and second all-time at Hopkins.
 
Newman captured first in the pole vault, clearing 3.80 meters (12-5.50) to lead a trio of Blue Jays into the top-15. Sarah Soto placed eighth with a clearance of 3.20 meters (10-6), and Cassidy Woodham matched that height to finish 12th while recording a personal best.
 
Ezumba added a second-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 13.18 meters (43-3), the 24th-farthest mark in Division III this season. Kellen Ievers finished 18th with a mark of 10.79 meters (35-4.75). In the long jump, Zhang placed eighth in the Invite with a leap of 5.16 meters (16-11.25), while Woodham finished 24th in the Open at 4.00 meters (13-1.50).
 
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, February 14, at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University. Events at the Track & Tennis Center are scheduled to begin at 9:00 a.m.
