LANCASTER, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's indoor track & field team captured its 15
th consecutive Centennial Conference Championship on Sunday at Franklin & Marshall. Senior thrower
Erika Ezumba was named the Women's Field Most Outstanding Performer as the Blue Jays totaled seven gold medals, five silvers and four bronzes on the final day of competition.
With all 19 events scored, Hopkins dominated the field, piling up 277 points to finish nearly 170 points ahead of second-place Ursinus (108.5).
The Champions
Erika Ezumba | Shot Put
After claiming her third straight conference title in the weight throw, Ezumba added another championship in the shot put to secure Most Outstanding Performer honors. The senior recorded a 13.96-meter throw — a school record and the 10
th-best mark in the nation this season — becoming the program's 10
th conference champion in the event. Last year's bronze medalist
Phoebe Williams earned silver with a 12.42-meter mark, which ranks 95
th nationally and sixth in school history. Ouimet added points with an 11.60-meter throw to finish sixth.
Claudia Ouimet | Long Jump
Ouimet delivered Hopkins' 10
th conference championship — and fifth straight — in the long jump with a 5.52-meter leap.
Chloe Zhang captured the first of her two silver medals with a 5.50-meter jump, the 60
th-best mark nationally this season and sixth in program history.
Mirra Klimov | 60-meter dash
After finishing second a year ago, Klimov returned to the top of the podium, becoming the fifth Hopkins champion in the event with a winning time of 7.78. Zhang secured silver in 7.80, while Ouimet (6
th | 7.92 | PR) and
Ellie Lewis (7
th | 7.99) added valuable points.
Ani Wedemeyer | 800-meter dash
Wedemeyer led a dominant Hopkins showing in the 800 meters, where the Blue Jays claimed six of the top eight spots. The freshman became the program's first freshman champion and seventh overall in the event, crossing in 2:13.69.
Lorna Arcese earned her second consecutive silver medal (2:17.03), followed closely by
Diana Valentini (3
rd | 2:17.15) and
Hanna Bruno (4
th | 2:18.28).
Lily Tremba (2:19.19) and
Sofia Fernandez (2:22.42) rounded out the Blue Jays' top-eight finishes.
Mackenzie Setton | Mile
Setton became the eighth Hopkins champion in the mile, clocking a 4:59.78. The title marks the third consecutive year a Blue Jay has won the event.
Lena Cakulev (6
th | 5:16.54 | PR) and
Anne Hiraki (8
th | 5:19.30) also scored in the event.
Mia Kotler | 3000-meter run
Competing in her first Centennial Conference Indoor Championship, Kotler made an immediate impact. The freshman became the second freshman in program history — and first since 2013 (Hanna Oneda) — to win the 3,000 meters, finishing in 9:47.57. Hopkins swept the podium, with
Carter Brotherton taking silver (9:51.81 | 42
nd nationally) and
Emma Kothari earning bronze (9:57.74).
Aisling Callahan (4
th | 10:10.18),
Natalie Boquist (6
th | 10:11.69) and
Sydney Shock (7
th | 10:18.92 | PR) added three more top-eight finishes.
4x400-Meter Relay
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Gabrielle Moore,
Madison Moore,
Lianne Saussy and Arcese closed the meet in dominant fashion, winning by four seconds in 3:56.28. The victory marks the program's 12
th conference title in the event — and fifth straight. The time is a meet record and ranks ninth in program history.
In total, the Blue Jays recorded 33 top-eight finishes on day two to secure the team championship.
Hopkins returns to action Sunday, March 6, at The Armory in New York for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Championships (AARTFC).
