NEW ORLEANS – Johns Hopkins women's track and field seniors
Mackenzie Setton and
Erika Ezumba earned top regional honors from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross-Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), while head coach
Bobby Van Allen and assistant coach
Jefferson Butler were also recognized with major coaching awards.
Setton was named the Mid-Atlantic Track Athlete of the Year after her postseason performances. She placed fourth in the mile at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships and anchored Johns Hopkins to a runner-up finish in the distance medley relay. Earlier in the season, Setton captured the mile title and led off a meet-record-setting victory in the DMR at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships.
Ezumba earned Mid-Atlantic Field Athlete of the Year honors following an exceptional championship season. She finished as the national runner-up in the weight throw and placed sixth in the shot put at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, setting new school records in both events. Her mark of 19.90 meters in the weight throw ranks seventh in Division III history. Ezumba also swept both throwing events at the Centennial Conference Indoor Championships.
Van Allen, now in his 27
th season as head coach, guided the Blue Jays to a fifth-place finish at the NCAA Division III Indoor Championships, the program's third-highest finish all-time. Johns Hopkins qualified 14 athletes across 10 events for the national meet. The Blue Jays also won their 15
th consecutive Centennial Conference Indoor Title.
Butler was named Mid-Atlantic Assistant Coach of the Year after leading a dominant throws group. His athletes accounted for 14 of Hopkins' 31 points at the NCAA Championships. The group was led by Ezumba, who placed second in the weight throw and sixth in the shot put, and
Phoebe Williams, who added a sixth-place finish in the weight throw.
