BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team opened competition Friday at the Paul Donahue Invitational, Navy Spring Invitational and Morgan State Legacy Meet, recording 12 top-25 finishes while posting several marks that rank among the best in program history and across Division III this season.
Claudia Ouimet turned in the highlight performance of the day as the lone Blue Jay competing at the Navy Spring Invitational. Through four events in the heptathlon, Ouimet sits in second place with 3,120 points, just 230 points off the lead. Her lowest finish of the day was fourth in the high jump (1.54m), while she excelled in the remaining events.
Ouimet placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best 14.49, a mark that ranks 21
st nationally and sets a new school record. She also won the shot put with a throw of 12.36 meters, the seventh-best in program history, and added a third-place finish in the 200 meters with a time of 25.31, the fourth-fastest in Hopkins history.
At the Paul Donahue Invitational, the Blue Jays' middle-distance group impressed in the 800 meters, placing five runners among the top 25.
Ani Wedemeyer led the group with a 10
th-place finish in a personal-best 2:10.65, which ranks 10
th nationally and fifth in program history.
Diana Valentini followed in 15
th with a personal-best 2:11.80, the 20
th-fastest time nationally and seventh in school history.
Lorna Arcese placed 18
th in 2:12.59 (29
th nationally, ninth in program history), while
Hanna Bruno finished 22
nd in 2:13.98, the 43
rd-fastest time in Division III this season.
Sofia Fernandez rounded out the group with a 25
th-place finish in 2:14.85, which ranks 52
nd nationally.
In the 1,500 meters,
Aisling Callahan placed 15
th in 4:39.85 (65
th nationally), while
Bella Stenhouse finished 23
rd in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:26.26 to round out Hopkins' efforts at Widener.
At the Morgan State Legacy Meet,
Kellen Ievers led a trio of Blue Jays in the hammer throw with a 12
th-place finish and a personal-best toss of 37.10 meters, the fourth-best mark in program history.
Olivia Reid followed with a personal-best 31.44 meters (ninth in school history), while
Carina Beritela placed 18
th with a throw of 30.60 meters.
Beritela and Reid each added a second top-25 finish in the javelin. Beritela placed sixth with a throw of 28.93 meters, while Reid finished 17
th at 20.56 meters.
Hopkins returns to action Saturday, April 18, to conclude competition at the Navy Spring Invitational, Paul Donahue Invitational and Morgan State Legacy Meet.
