Gelinas, Collison Earn B1G Player of the Week Nods

Duo Helped Blue Jays Top Maryland, Grab Share of B1G Regular Season Title

ROSEMONT, IL – For the fourth time this season, Johns Hopkins senior goalie Oran Gelinas has been named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week, while Blue Jay midfielder Matt Collison was tabbed the league's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time it was announced today.  The duo helped Johns Hopkins to a 9-8 win over Maryland last Saturday at Homewood Field.  Collectively, Johns Hopkins has now produced 11 Big Ten Player of the Week selections during the 2026 season.

The fourth selection for Gelinas as the B1G Specialist of the Week marks the most a Blue Jay has ever earned the award in one season.  He totaled 14 saves and added four ground balls in the win against the Terrapins.  He posted four saves in the fourth quarter to help nail down the victory and his 14-save performance marks the sixth time this season he has posted 12 or more saves.

Collison punched up three goals and added one assist to lead the way offensively against the Terps.  He scored two of his three goals in the fourth quarter, including one that gave the Blue Jays an 8-5 lead and another – the eventual game-winner – with 2:28 remaining that made it 9-7.  The hat trick was his fifth of the season.

On the year, Gelinas now sports a 9.00 goals against average and a .590 save percentage.  He leads the Big Ten and ranks fourth nationally in save percentage and ranks third in the Big Ten and 10th in the nation in goals against average.

Collison's three goals and one assist against Maryland push his season totals to 24 goals and 12 assists for a team-best 36 points.  He leads the team in points and ranks second in goals and third in assists.  Among midfielders in the Big Ten, he ranks first in goals and points.

Johns Hopkins (8-4, 3-2 B1G) is currently ranked seventh in the nation by the USILA, Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse. The Blue Jays earned the top seed in the upcoming Big Ten Tournament and will play the winner of the quarterfinal game between Michigan and Ohio State in the semifinals at Rutgers on April 30 (3 pm | BTN).
