LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins graduate student
Dominique Thomas and sophomore
Claudia Ouimet have been named the Centennial Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week after standout performances at the Morgan State Legacy Meet and the Navy Spring Invitational. The honor marks the second conference recognition this season for Thomas and the first for Ouimet.
At the Morgan State Legacy Meet, Thomas delivered one of the top performances of the weekend. She placed fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.70, which ranks fourth in Division III this season. Her mark would have set both a school and Centennial Conference record, but a wind reading of +2.2 meters per second renders it ineligible for record consideration.
Thomas also teamed with
Mirra Klimov,
Chloe Zhang and
Ellie Lewis to continue their record-breaking success in the 4x100-meter relay. For the second straight week, the quartet reset the program and conference record with a fourth-place finish in 46.65—now the sixth-fastest time in Division III this season.
Competing as the lone Blue Jay at the Navy Spring Invitational, Ouimet rewrote the Hopkins and Centennial Conference record book in the heptathlon and 100m hurdles. In the heptathlon, Ouimet placed second overall with a program and conference-record 5,120 points. She also placed third in the 100-meter hurdles with a personal-best 14.49, a mark that ranks 21
st nationally, sets a new school record and stands eighth all-time in conference history.
She added a victory in the shot put with a throw of 12.36 meters, the seventh-best in program history, and placed third in the 200 meters with a time of 25.31, the fourth-fastest in Hopkins history. Her day-two performances were highlighted by a third-place finish in the long jump (5.48m), the sixth-best mark in program history.
Hopkins returns to action on Thursday, April 23, as the Blue Jays split their squad between the Penn Relays in Philadelphia and the Paul Kaiser Classic in Shippensburg, hosted by Shippensburg University.
