PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team turned in a strong showing Friday across two meets—the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, and the Carpenter Case Invitational, hosted by McDaniel—combining for three event victories, seven top-10 finishes and multiple marks that rank among the best in program history and Division III this season.
At the Penn Relays, the 4x100-meter relay team of
Chloe Zhang,
Mirra Klimov,
Ellie Lewis and
Dominique Thomas continued its record-breaking run for the third consecutive week. The quartet posted a time of 46.52 to qualify for Saturday's final, setting both school and Centennial Conference records. The mark currently ranks sixth in Division III this season.
The 4x400-meter relay team of
Gabrielle Moore,
Lianne Saussy,
Ani Wedemeyer and
Lorna Arcese delivered the Blue Jays' lone event victory in Philadelphia. The group captured the title with a time of 3:47.74, the second-fastest in program history and seventh-best in Division III this season.
Clarissa Newman rounded out Hopkins' competitors at Penn, clearing 3.60 meters in the pole vault to place 12
th overall.
At the Carpenter Case Invitational, Hopkins secured two additional event titles behind strong performances from
Kellen Ievers and
Carina Beritela.
Beritela led the way in the javelin, winning the event with a personal-best throw of 31.28 meters.
Olivia Reid added a fifth-place finish with a throw of 19.60 meters.
Ievers claimed the discus title with a mark of 36.31 meters, while Beritela finished seventh at 28.91 meters. Ievers also placed second in the hammer throw with a personal-best 37.76 meters—good for fourth all-time in program history. Reid added a personal-best throw of 32.52 meters in the hammer to place eighth, a mark that ranks ninth in Hopkins history.
Hopkins returns to action Saturday, April 25, to conclude competition at the Penn Relays.
