PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team wrapped up competition at the 130
th running of the Penn Relays, hosted by the University of Pennsylvania, on Saturday with a record-setting performance in the 4x800-meter relay.
Competing as the Blue Jays' lone entry on the final day, the quartet of
Ani Wedemeyer,
Emma Kothari,
Diana Valentini and
Mackenzie Setton delivered an extraordinary performance in the 4x800-meter relay. The group crossed the finish line in 8:49.79 to place third, trailing only Navy, which won the event, and Yale.
Their time stands as the fastest in the nation this season and ranks second in program history as well as second all-time in Division III. The only faster performance came from last year's Johns Hopkins squad of Kothari, Setton,
Harrinee Senthilkumar and
Annie Huang, which set the Division III record at the 129
th Penn Relays.
The Blue Jays return to action on Friday, May 1, at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Gettysburg College, where Hopkins will look to defend its title and secure the program's 16
th consecutive conference championship.
