Trio of Champions Powers Hopkins on Opening Day of Centennial Championships

Ezumba Wins Hammer Throw; Newman Takes Pole Vault; Callahan Claims 10K Title

GETTYSBURG, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team opened competition at the Centennial Conference Outdoor Championships, hosted by Gettysburg College, on Friday with a strong showing, highlighted by event titles from Erika Ezumba and Clarissa Newman.

After three scored events, the Blue Jays sit atop the team standings with 45 points. Dickinson (16), Gettysburg (15), Ursinus (11) and Franklin & Marshall (9) round out the top five heading into day two.

The Champions
Erika Ezumba | Hammer Throw
Ezumba delivered a dominant performance to defend her hammer throw title, reaffirming her status as the favorite entering the meet. The senior won with a mark of 57.59 meters, shattering her own meet record of 53.95 meters set last year by nearly four meters. She becomes just the second athlete in program history to win back-to-back hammer throw titles, joining Julia Zambo (2021, 2022).

For the second straight year, Phoebe Williams earned silver with a personal-best throw of 53.42 meters. Her mark ranks second in program history and sits 10th in Division III this season.

Clarissa Newman | Pole Vault
Newman cleared 3.65 meters to claim her second consecutive pole vault title, becoming just the second back-to-back champion in program history, alongside Annie Gutierrez (2021, 2022). Her mark ranks 37th nationally this season. The victory also gives Johns Hopkins its ninth conference title in the event and extends the program's streak to six straight years with a pole vault champion.

Aisling Callahan | 10,000 Meter
Callahan cruised to victory in the 10,000-meter run, crossing the line in 36:45.30 (58th nationally)—more than 22 seconds ahead of the field. She took control of the race early, moving into the lead by the 1,200-meter mark and steadily widening the gap from there. The win marks the 11th 10,000-meter title in program history.

Isabella Stenhouse and Ainsley Edwards added valuable points with fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively. Stenhouse recorded a personal-best time of 38:20.51, followed by Edwards in 38:44.46, as the duo combined to contribute seven points.

Competing as the lone Blue Jay in the heptathlon, Jaclyn Donoho leads the field with 2,536 points through four events. She highlighted her day with first-place finishes in the high jump (1.59m) and 200-meter dash (28.03), along with a runner-up finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.92). Donoho is in position to contend for her first outdoor conference title and would become the program's seventh heptathlon champion.

Hopkins returns to action Saturday, May 2, for day two of the Centennial Conference Championships, looking to defend its team title and secure a 16th consecutive conference crown.
