Zimmerman Hat Trick Powers Johns Hopkins Past Rowan, 3-1

BALTIMORE, MD – Ava Zimmerman notched her first career hat trick to lead fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins to a 3-1 win over 24th-ranked Rowan Wednesday night at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays improve to 2-1 on the season while the Profs fall to 0-3.

After a scoreless first quarter, Hopkins needed just over three minutes in the second to get on the board. JHU cashed in on its fourth penalty corner of the night. Ella Morton stopped Ada Farmer's shot off Sophia Albano's insert. But Zimmerman collected the rebound and slotted a shot to the bottom left corner of the cage. Just 10 minutes later, she corralled the rebound off a shot from Evie Hamm, once again on a corner, and fired a shot inside the left post.

Zimmerman made it a hat trick just 3:32 into the third quarter with another rebound goal. Albano fired a shot towards the Rowan cage from the right endline. Morton kicked it away, but right to Zimmerman, who one-timed the ball into the back of the cage. Rowan ended Hopkins' bid at a shutout with only 3.4 seconds remaining in the game as the Profs earned a corner. Gracie Merrick inserted to Aurelia McManis on the right side of the circle and she scored on a low shot to the near post.

Zimmerman's hat trick is the 39th in program history and the first since Megan Chang's three-goal outing on October 15, 2025.

Hopkins outshot Rowan, 15-6, while the Profs had a 7-5 advantage in corners. Aubrey Kilgore finished with one save in three quarters while Jessica Lapidus did not face a shot in the second quarter. Morton tallied nine saves in the loss for the Profs.

Hopkins returns to Homewood Field on Saturday, September 12 against 22nd-ranked TCNJ. Game time is slated for 12:00 pm.
