LANCASTER, PA – Johns Hopkins sophomore defender
Maddie Burchfiel has been named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Week, while junior forward
Gwen Rauvola was named the Co-Offensive Player of the Week it was announced today by the league; this is the first time either has earned a Player of the Week nod from the Centennial Conference.
Burchfiel anchored a Johns Hopkins defense that posted a pair of shutouts last week as the Blue Jays topped McDaniel (3-0) and Haverford (2-0) in a pair of Centennial games. The Blue Jays allowed a total of just 10 shots in the two games as the Green Terror managed just six and the Fords just four. The shutouts were the fourth and fifth of the season for the Blue Jay defense.
Rauvola scored the first two goals of her career to lead the way offensively for Johns Hopkins in its two victories last week. She scored the second goal in the 3-0 win against McDaniel and then added the game-opening goal in the 2-0 win against Haverford.
Johns Hopkins (6-1-2, 2-1 Centennial) will return to action on Saturday, October 3 when the Blue Jays travel to Bryn Mawr to take on the Owls (1 pm).
