Biography

Did You Know: Joe Benson was a two-time all-state selection and the Baltimore Metro Player-of-the-Year in football while playing at McDonogh.

This Season: Suffered a torn ACL at the end of first semester and will miss the entire 2006 season. Planning to return for a fifth year in 2007.

2005: Played in a career-high 10 games and started the first four games of the season on Hopkins[apos] first midfield • Scored a career-high eight goals and added two assists for 10 points • Tied for third on the team with two extra man goals • Scored a career-high three goals and added one assist for a personal-best four points in an 11-5 win over Hofstra • Entered game against Hofstra with career totals of two goals and one assist • Matched career-high with three goals against Marist in the first round of the NCAA Tournament and added a goal in the NCAA Quarterfinals against UMass.

2004: Appeared in five games as a reserve attackman • Registered one goal and had one ground ball to his credit • Tallied lone goal in a 17-6 win over Albany • Played in the first NCAA Tournament game of his career with an appearance in the 15-3 win over Providence in the first round.

2003: Missed the second half of the season after suffering a broken collarbone in practice on April 8 • Finished the season with two goals and one assist for three points • Scored both of his goals and added an assist in JHU[apos]s 16-7 win over Albany.

At McDonogh: Played football, basketball and lacrosse • Two-time all-state, all-city, all-county and all-metro selection in lacrosse and football • Led football and basketball teams to MIAA championships.

Benson • The son of Rodney and Charlotte Benson • Born January 15, 1984 • Younger brother of Bobby Benson, who graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2003 and finished his career at Homewood ranked sixth on the Blue Jays[apos] career goal-scoring list with 124 • Economics major.
