BALTIMORE, Md. -- Johns Hopkins sophomore running back Adam Cook (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in the Blue Jays' 17-10 win over Dickinson last Saturday. This is the first time Cook has earned the award in his career and he shared the honor with Muhlenberg quarterback Justin Jones, who led the Mules to a 43-0 win at Ursinus.
Cook rushed for a career-high 174 yards and one touchdown to lead the Blue Jays to their first win over Dickinson since 1996. His eight-yard touchdown run with 33 seconds left in the second quarter tied the game at 10-10. Cook matched his previous career-high for rushing yards in the first half alone as he rushed 15 times for 120 yards and the one touchdown before halftime. He had previously rushed for 120 yards against third-ranked Bridgewater in the first start of his career last season. Cook also returned two punts for 27 yards against Dickinson to account for his personal-best 201 all-purpose yards on the day.
Through eight games, Cook leads the Blue Jays in rushing (439 yards), rushing yards per game (54.9), rushing touchdowns (5), all-purpose yards (668) and all-purpose yards per game (83.5). Although he has played in every game, he saw limited action against Gettysburg and Ursinus as he was hampered by injuries in the middle of the season. Cook currently ranks eighth in the Centennial Conference in rushing yards per game and ninth in all-purpose yards per game.
Johns Hopkins is currently 6-2 overall and 3-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Blue Jays play at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday and return home for the regular-season-finale on November 16 against McDaniel. Hopkins can tie the school record for wins in a season with one more victory and the Blue Jays would claim a share of their first-ever Centennial Conference title with two wins.
