Margraff Announces 2002 Football Captains

April 24, 2002

BALTIMORE, Md. -- Johns Hopkins football coach Jim Margraff recently announced the captains for the 2002 Johns Hopkins football team. In a vote of all players who will return to the team next season, center Kevin Kostibos (Florham Park, NJ/Hanover Park), defensive tackle Pat Doyle (Wilkes-Barre, PA/Bishop Hoban), and linebacker Mike Little (Red Bank, NJ/Middletown South) were selected to serve as team captains during the 2002 season. All three will be seniors next season.

Kostibos has started at center for the Blue Jays during each of his three seasons and has twice been honored by the Centennial Conference. A First Team All-Centennial selection as a junior, Kostibos was the anchor of an offensive line that led the way for a unit that averaged over 23 points and 370 yards of total offense. Hopkins led the Centennial Conference in time of possession (34:11) last season and featured one of the most balanced offenses in the league as JHU averaged 187.8 yards passing and 179.2 yards rushing. Kostibos was a Second Team All-Centennial selection as a sophomore and is majoring in political science.

Doyle earned Second Team All-Centennial honors last season as he enjoyed the finest season of his career. He finished sixth on the team with 32 tackles and counted 17 solo stops, eight tackles for losses, and two sacks among his 32 tackles. Doyle has 73 tackles and three sacks in three seasons and has increased his tackle total each year. He is majoring in economics with a minor in business.

Little finished second on the team in tackles as a sophomore (65) and tied for the team-lead as a junior with 59. Among his 59 stops a year ago were 28 solos and eight for losses, while he had four pass breakups, two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble, and one interception. His interception at the five-yard line with less than five minutes to play in the fourth quarter helped seal Hopkins' stunning 21-14 season-ending win over ninth-ranked Western Maryland. Little is majoring in economics.

Under Margraff's guidance, Johns Hopkins posted a 6-3 record last season, including a 4-2 mark in the Centennial Conference. The Blue Jays will kickoff the 2002 season on September 14 at Washington & Lee.
