Baltimore, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team, ranked 10th in this week's South Atlantic rankings, won its fifth straight match with a 6-3 victory over Gettysburg Tuesday afternoon.
The Blue Jays improved to 9-3 overall and 8-2 in the Centennial Conference with the win. Senior Emily Petersen (Cedar Rapids, IA/Linn-Mar) defeated Tracy Rogers 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1, and freshman Vandna Jerath (Augusta, GA/Augusta Prep) topped Robin Bruzga 6-1, 6-1 at No. 3. Sophomore Cara Loeys (Cobham Surrey, England/American Community School) bested Tara Slade 6-2, 7-5 at No. 4, and freshman Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) defeated Becky Macmillan 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. Sophomore Liz Crowe (Wilmington, DE/Alexis I. duPont) was the other JHU singles winner, defeating Carrie Hemphill 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6.
Gettysburg took the No. 1 and No. 2 singles before Loeys and Crowe defeated Macmillan and Hemphill 8-1 at No. 3.
The Blue Jays will compete in the Centennial Conference Tournament beginning on Friday.
