Randall Leads Hopkins Past Ursinus, 76-53

COLLEGEVILLE, PA - Sophomore forward Ashanna Randall (Media, PA/Penncrest) registered her team-leading third double-double of the season with 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Johns Hopkins past Ursinus, 76-53 in Centennial Conference women's basketball action this afternoon. The Blue Jays improved to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial, while Ursinus fell to 5-13 on the year and 2-6 in conference action.

The game remained close throughout the first half as neither team was able to take a commanding lead. Ursinus led for the first 12 and a half minutes before sophomore guard Alissa Burkholder (Allentown, PA/Salisbury) gave Hopkins its first lead at 14-12 with a three pointer at the 7:30 mark. The Blue Jays led 26-18 with 5:13 left in the half following a jumper by Randall before settling for a 35-30 halftime advantage.

Hopkins opened the second half with a 14-5 run to increase its lead to 49-35 with 15:37 remaining. The Bears cut the margin to nine at 51-42 following a three pointer by Erin Hussey, but the Blue Jays answered with a 16-3 run to put the game out of reach.

Randall, who was 5-of-6 from the field and 8-of-11 from the foul line, has three double-doubles in the last six games. She also added her team-leading 15th block of the season and three steals. Senior center Kathy Darling (Milford, DE/Milford) joined Randall in double figures with 12 points and grabbed five rebounds. She moved to within seven points of the 1,500-point mark for her career.

Junior guard Trista Snyder (West Chester, PA/Unionville) added eight points, while junior guard Maureen Myers (Waverly, PA/Abington Heights) and Burkholder both chipped in with seven points. Senior guard Ashley Shepler (Tornado, WV/Charleston Catholic) and freshman guard Katie O'Malley (Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) led Hopkins with four assists apiece.

Bridget Hussey scored a team-high 13 points for Ursinus, while Julia Tramontana also reached double figures with 11 points. Erica Maurer grabbed a team-best six rebounds to go with seven points, while Krista Marino recorded a game-high five assists.

JHU forced 21 Ursinus turnovers and outrebounded the Bears, 50-24. Hopkins also limited Ursinus to 28 percent shooting in the second half and 32 percent for the game. The Blue Jays shot 41 percent for the game and were 21-of-24 (87 percent) on free throws.

Hopkins returns to action Wednesday as the Blue Jays travel to face Gettysburg in Centennial action at 7:00 p.m.
