Bouloubasis Finished Third At Regionals, Advances To NCAA Finals

State College, PA - Junior Matt Bouloubasis (Bethel Park, PA/Bethel Park) finished third in the epee finals to lead the Johns Hopkins men's fencing team at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic/South Regional Championships Saturday on the campus of Penn State University.

Bouloubasis, who finished fifth in the region, qualifies for the NCAA Finals in Colorado Springs, CO, at the Air Force Academy on March 20-23.

Senior Dave Kotlyar (Holland, PA/Council Rock) advanced to the epee semifinals and finished in 22nd place, while sophomore John Majewski (Wrentham, MA/King Philip Regional) placed 25th and sophomore Anson Tang (Plano, TX/Illinois Math and Science Academy) finished 31st.

Freshman Jason Park (Franklin Lakes, NJ/Ramapo) led Hopkins in the sabre by placing 13th, while senior Yong Kwon (Bronx, NY/Fordham Prep) finished 20th and sophomore Bin Luo (Commack, NY/Commack) came in 21st.

Sophomore Brian Bishe' (Glen Ridge, NJ/Montclair Kimberley Academy) advanced to the foil semifinals and finished in 18th place, while sophomore Marcos Kuroki (Sao Paulo, Brazil/Escala Maria Imaculada) placed 22nd and junior Emanuel Strauss (New York, NY/U.N. International School) finished 23rd.
