Cook Named Centennial Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week

Nov. 8, 2004

BALTIMORE, Md. ? Johns Hopkins senior running back Adam Cook (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player-of-the-Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 38-14 victory over 11th-ranked Hampden-Sydney. Cook is the third different Hopkins player to earn CC Offensive Player-of-the-Week honors this season as he joins junior quarterback Zach DiIonno and junior running back T.J. Lyons. DiIonno has earned the honor twice this season.

Cook rushed for a career-high 185 yards and two touchdowns to fuel the victory over the 11th-ranked Tigers. The 185 yards rank as the ninth-highest single-game total in school history and the 185 all-purpose yards rank as the fourth-highest single-game total of Cook's career. He led a ground game that churned out a season-high 330 rushing yards, the most by the Blue Jays since November 3, 2001, when Hopkins rushed for 386 yards in a 41-0 victory over Franklin & Marshall.

Cook's effort against Hampden-Sydney improves his season totals to 101 rushes for 518 yards and five touchdowns. He became Hopkins' career leader in all-purpose yards in the victory as well as he now has 3,972 all-purpose yards in his career. Brad McLam (1983-86) previously held the record with 3,921 all-purpose yards. Cook is also now within striking distance of JHU's career rushing record. He ranks third in school history with 2,572 career rushing yards and needs 63 to pass Don Zajick (1994-97) for second place on the all-time list and 129 to surpass Adam Gentile's (1996-99) school-record of 2,700 yards.

Johns Hopkins is currently 7-2 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial Conference. The Blue Jays will host McDaniel on Saturday in a showdown to determine the Centennial Conference Championship. If McDaniel wins the Green Terror will claim the outright title. If Hopkins wins the Blue Jays are assured of a share of the title with McDaniel and Muhlenberg, while Dickinson and Franklin & Marshall could grab a share with wins this weekend as well. In any scenario involving a shared title the Centennial Conference's tie-breaking formula will be utilized to determine which team receives the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs.
