Campbell, Weeks & Wolcott Earn All-ECAC Honors

Dec. 16, 2004

BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins University football team placed three players on the 2004 ECAC Division III Southwest Football All-Star team, it was announced today by ECAC Commissioner Phil Buttafuoco. Senior DB Matt Campbell (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) and senior OL Matt Weeks (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) earned First Team All-ECAC Southwest honors for the second consecutive season, while senior WR Brian Wolcott (Harding, PA/Wyoming Area) was named to the first team for the first time in his career.

Campbell, who recently became just the sixth player in school history to earn First Team All-Centennial Conference honors three times, finished seventh on the team with 57 tackles, including two for losses, and added four pass breakups and two interceptions on the year. Campbell, who earned All-America honors from three different organizations in 2003, started a school-record 40 consecutive games to close his career (he did not start the first two games of his freshman year) and ended his career with 256 tackles and 16 interceptions. He ranks second on JHU's career interceptions list and tied the school single-season record with eight interceptions last season. In addition to the above honors, Campbell also earned Second Team Football Gazette South Region All-America honors.

Weeks was a unanimous First Team All-Centennial selection this season as he anchored an offensive line that paved the way for an offense that averaged 23.5 points and 325.2 yards per game. He started all 22 games in the last two years and is just the sixth Johns Hopkins offensive lineman to earn First Team All-Centennial honors twice in his career. In addition, he was a Third Team Football Gazette All-American last season, when he also garnered Honorable Mention SIDs All-America status. Weeks was also recently named a Second Team Football Gazette South Region All-American.

Wolcott finished the 2004 season with 47 receptions for 773 yards and eight touchdowns. He also led the Blue Jays with 900 all-purpose yards and tied for the Centennial Conference lead in receiving yards per game, while finishing third in receptions per game. A First Team All-Centennial selection this season, Wolcott ended his career ranked second in career touchdown receptions (26), third in receiving yards (2,342) and fourth in receptions (141). His 27 overall touchdowns tie him for third on JHU's all-time list.

Johns Hopkins grabbed a share of a third straight Centennial Conference Championship this season and won a third straight ECAC title with a 26-23 victory over Waynesburg in the 2004 ECAC Southeast Championship Game. The Blue Jays posted a 9-2 record in 2004 and Campbell, Weeks and Wolcott helped lead Hopkins to the winningest four-year period in school history as JHU posted a 34-8 (.810) during their career.
