Chestertown, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team improved to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with a 6-3 victory at Washington College Tuesday afternoon.

The Blue Jays won two doubles points, as sophomore Amanda Leese (Amherst, NH/Bishop Guertin) and freshman Priya Puri (Wayzata, MN/The Blake School) defeated Shoko Nakamura and Erika Kayukawa 8-6 at No. 2 while sophomore Jill Seidman (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) and freshman Meghan Hasenauer (Weston, CT/Greens Farms Academy) shut out Samantha Halpin and Lyndsey Beidle 8-0 at No. 3.

The Shorewomen took the No. 1 doubles point when Ne'ko Browder and Linda Hooks bested senior Cara Loeys (Surrey, England/American Community School) and junior Michelle Liang (Rochester, NY/Brighton) 8-1.

Freshman Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) defeated Hooks 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles for Hopkins, while Puri needed three sets to post a 6-0, 3-6, 6-2 victory over Halpin at No. 4. Loeys shut out Kayakawa 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, and Hasenauer defeated Jaclyn Moore 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.

Browder topped Liang 6-0, 6-2 at No. 1 while Nakamura defeated Leese 6-4, 6-0 at No. 2 for Washington's two singles points.

The Blue Jays return to action Saturday when Hopkins travels to Franklin & Marshall at 1 p.m.
