DiIonno Named Centennial Co-Offensive Player of the Week

Sept. 13, 2004

BALTIMORE, Md. — Johns Hopkins junior quarterback Zach DiIonno (West Caldwell, NJ/James Caldwell) has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in Johns Hopkins' 35-17 win at Kean last Saturday. This is the second time in DiIonno's career he has been named the CC's Offensive Player of the Week.

DiIonno was 24-of-36 for a career-high 371 yards and a personal-best four touchdown passes in the win over the Cougars. DiIonno's 371 yards rank as the second-highest single-game total in school history and the eighth-highest single-game total in Centennial Conference history. Only John Guglielmo's 477-yard effort against Georgetown in 1991 ranks ahead of DiIonno's in JHU history. This was just the 10th time in school history that JHU has had a quarterback throw for 300 or more yards in a game and the 371-yard effort is the most ever in a road game by a Blue Jay. DiIonno's previous career-high of 193 passing yards came in a 17-12 loss at Randolph Macon in 2002.

Through two games DiIonno is 38-of-62 for 524 yards with six touchdown passes against just two interceptions. He ranks first in the Centennial Conference in passing yards per game (262.) and touchdown passes (6) and ranks second in pass efficiency (157.8) and total offense (262.5 yards per game).

Johns Hopkins is currently 2-0 on the year and has won five straight games dating back to last season, when the Blue Jays posted a 10-1 record, shared a second straight Centennial Conference title and won the ECAC South Atlantic Championship. Hopkins will host Carnegie Mellon on Saturday (September 18) at 1:00 pm.
