Triplin Named Centennial Offensive Player of the Week

Oct. 17, 2005

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins junior wide receiver Anthony Triplin (Baltimore, MD/Gilman) has been named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Friday's 14-0 win over Franklin & Gettysburg. Triplin's selection marks the sixth time this season the Blue Jays have had a player honored by the Centennial as Player of the Week, including the second straight for an offensive player. The six selections are evenly divided between offense, defense and special teams.

Triplin had 11 receptions for a career-high 169 yards and one touchdown in the win over the Bullets. His 80-yard touchdown reception early in the second quarter gave the Blue Jays a 7-0 lead and was the longest reception of his career. Triplin's 11 receptions were just two shy of his career high, while the 169 receiving yards rank as the 13th-highest single-game total in school history. In addition, the 80-yard touchdown reception was the longest reception by a Johns Hopkins player since Brian Wolcott caught a 97-yard touchdown pass on October 19, 2002 and is just the second pass play by the Blue Jays that covered 80 or more yards since 1990.

Triplin, who led the Centennial Conference in receptions and finished third in receiving yards last season, currently leads the league in receptions (39) and receiving yards (435). He is bidding to become the third Johns Hopkins player to lead the Centennial Conference in receptions in back-to-back seasons.

Triplin also continued his assault on the Johns Hopkins record book with his showing against Gettysburg. His 11 receptions pushed his career total to 139, which moves him into fifth-place on the school's all-time reception list. He also ranks fifth in career receiving yards (1,623) and needs just one touchdown reception to move into a tie for 10th-place on the touchdown receptions list.

Johns Hopkins ran its winning streak to 10 games and improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Centennial Conference with the win over Gettysburg. The 10-game winning streak is the second-longest in school history and just one shy of the school-record 11-game run the Blue Jays enjoyed from 2002-03. The Blue Jays will travel to Muhlenberg (3-3, 2-1 CC) on Saturday to take on the four-time defending Centennial Conference co-champion Mules. Johns Hopkins has currently won a school-record eight straight games on the road dating back to the end of the 2003 season.
