Box Score

WESTMINSTER, MD - Senior Dani Unflat and junior Caitlin Potter each scored twice to lead the McDaniel field hockey team to a 4-0 win over Johns Hopkins on Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays, who have just one regular-season game remaining, fell to 9-7 overall and 6-3 in the Centennial Conference, while the Green Terror improved to 9-6, 5-3 CC.

Despite the lopsided score, Hopkins led McDaniel 17-5 on penalty corners and trailed by just four shots (18-14). But the Green Terror's rookie goalkeeper Erika Wawzyanick blocked all 10 of the Blue Jays' shots on goal, and Unflat and Potter were proficient on the other end of the field.

The game was scoreless until the final minutes of the first half, when Potter and Unflat scored back-to-back goals to give McDaniel a 2-0 halftime lead. Potter scored first off an assist from freshman Brooke Dixon with 6:53 remaining before Unflat scored unassisted with 5:55 on the clock. The Green Terror led 8-3 on shots, while the Blue Jays had a 5-4 edge on corners at the break.

The McDaniel duo carried momentum into the second half, scoring quickly to double the Green Terror lead, 4-0. Senior Lindsay Ricks set up Unflat's second goal with 33:30 left to play and senior Laura Baggaley assisted Potter for the final score with 28:03 remaining.

Sophomore Sarah Bender led the Hopkins offense with five shots, three on goal, while on defense, junior Dayna Eng made seven saves in goal.

The Blue Jays play the final home game of their regular season this Saturday, October 29, at Homewood Field, where they host #2 Ursinus at 5 pm.
