BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins football team jumped from 24th to 22nd in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III Coaches' Poll, which was released today. The Blue Jays are currently 4-0 after last Saturday's 35-14 victory at Dickinson and will host Franklin & Marshall (2-2) at Homewood Field this Saturday.
Johns Hopkins received 174 points in this week's poll to easily outdistance 23rd-ranked Wheaton (IL), which garnered 136 points. The Blue Jays extended their overall winning streak to eight games with the win over Dickinson, a streak that ranks as the second-longest in school history. The win was also the eighth straight road win for the Blue Jays, who broke the previous school record for consecutive road victories with the win over the Red Devils. Johns Hopkins had previously won seven straight road games from 1967-1969.
Under the guidance of 16th-year head coach Jim Margraff, the Blue Jay football program has enjoyed a great deal of success since 1990. Margraff ranks as the all-time winningest football coach in school history with a 98-55-3 (.639) record and the 98 games Johns Hopkins has won under Margraff's guidance in 15-plus seasons are three more than Hopkins had won in the previous 23 seasons combined. Since the beginning of the 1995 season, the Blue Jays are 74-31-1 (.703).
