BALTIMORE - Four goals in the first 15 minutes set the tone for the rest of the day, as Johns Hopkins (6-5, 3-1) rolled past #12 Franklin & Marshall (8-4, 2-2), 7-0, at Homewood Field in Centennial Conference field hockey on Saturday.
Hopkins got on the board 6:29 into the game when junior Jamie Zubrow (Wilmington, DE/Brandywine) was awarded a penalty stroke. Zubrow pounded a shot to the left side of the net, giving the Blue Jays the early 1-0 advantage.
Less than three minutes later, Hopkins added another when freshman Leah Horton (Wayne, PA/Upper Merion Area) collected a rebound off of a save by F&M senior goalie Michelle Altman and stuffed it home to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.
At the 12:09 mark, senior Caite Kappel (Pittsburgh, PA/Sewickley Academy) and freshman Adair Landy (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) hooked up for the first time on the afternoon, when Landy fed a pass from the right side to Kappel, who put the Blue Jays up 3-0.
Junior Amy Soergel (Pittsburgh, PA/North Allegheny) closed out the first half scoring by picking up another loose ball in front of the F&M net and putting it back for a 4-0 lead at the 13:15 mark.
Just 2:40 into the second half, Landy got a breakaway chance and made a move around the F&M goalkeeper before putting the ball in the net for a 5-0 advantage.
Before the half was 10 minutes old, Hopkins finished up their scoring work for the day, as Zubrow scored her second off of a pass from Soergel, followed by Kappel's second goal from Landy.
The Blue Jays return to action on Wednesday night, travelling to Dickinson for a 4 p.m. contest.
