LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior defensive end Brian Cook (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 10-7 win against Muhlenberg. This is the first time this season Cook has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week by the Centennial Conference and he shares the honor with Muhlenberg's Cameron Ahouse.
Cook led a Johns Hopkins defense that limited Muhlenberg to just 40 yards of total offense (19 yards rushing and 21 yards passing) on 41 plays. The Mules got a 26-yard gain on their first play from scrimmage, but totaled just 14 yards on their remaining 40 offensive plays in the game. After their first down run on their first play of the game, they didn't generate another first down until just over two minutes remained in the fourth quarter. Muhlenberg totaled just six yards of offense in the second half.
Cook posted a team-high six tackles and had 1.5 sacks to fuel the effort against Muhlenberg. He now has 34 tackles, 4.5 tackles for losses and 3.0 sacks on the year. He has also blocked a punt and recovered a fumble, which he returned 22 yards against Franklin & Marshall. He is tied for the team lead in sacks, is tied for second in tackles for losses and ranks fifth in tackles.
With three regular season games remaining Cook is closing in on 200 career tackles. He will enter this week's game at Ursinus with 187 tackles, 42.5 tackles for losses and 23.5 sacks in his career. He already holds the Johns Hopkins career and single-season (11.5 in 2004) sack records and earned First Team All-Centennial honors last season.
