Cook Honored by Centennial Conference

Nov. 6, 2006

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior defensive end Brian Cook (New Freedom, PA/Susquehannock) has been named the Centennial Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 24-10 win over Hampden-Sydney. This is the second time in the last three weeks that Cook has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week by the Centennial Conference and he shares the honor this week with McDaniel's Drew Abbamonte.

Cook led a Johns Hopkins defense that limited Hampden-Sydney to just 251 yards of total offense and the 10 points. He totaled a career-high 11 tackles, including 3.5 tackles for losses and two sacks, in the win. He also forced a fumble, which he recovered deep in Hampden-Sydney territory. The fumble recovery led to a Johns Hopkins touchdown that pushed the Blue Jays' lead to 14-3. The two-sack effort marked the fifth time in Cook's career that he has posted two sacks in a game.

Cook currently ranks fourth on the team in tackles (49) and leads the team in tackles for losses (9.0) and sacks (5.0). He also has two fumble recoveries, one forced fumble and one blocked punt to his credit. In addition, his 11-tackle effort against Hampden-Sydney pushed him past 200 tackles in his career as he now has 202 tackles, 47 tackles for losses and 25.5 sacks to his credit.

Johns Hopkins (4-5, 2-3 Centennial Conference) will play its final game of the season on Saturday when the Blue Jays host McDaniel (4-5, 2-3 Centennial) at Homewood Field. Kickoff is set for 1 pm.
