Scott Honored by Centennial Conference

Sept. 11, 2006

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins senior place-kicker/punter Ben Scott (Pittsburgh, PA/Shady Side Academy) has been named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Co-Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 21-14 win at Randolph-Macon. The selection marks the first time this season and the fourth time in his career that Scott has been recognized as the Special Teams Player of the Week by the league. Scott shared the honored with Muhlenberg's Ryan Sassaman.

Scott was 2-for-3 on field goals and averaged 44.8 yards on four punts in the win over the Yellow Jackets. His second field goal, which came with just 13 seconds remaining in the second quarter, was a school-record 52-yarder, while he also had a 61-yard punt in the victory. In addition to breaking Todd Bencivenni's previous school record of 51 yards (vs. Swarthmore on September 19, 1997), the 52-yard field goal also tied the Centennial Conference record, which was originally set by Mark Slevin of Franklin & Marshall on October 29, 1983 against Swarthmore.

Scott's two field goals in the game improved his career total to 33, which also tied the Centennial Conference career record (originally set by Joel Heintzelman of Dickinson (1996-99)). He needs just four more field goals to move into the top 10 in Division III history for most career field goals and seven more to become just the seventh player in Division III history to make 40 or more career field goals.

A Second Team All-Centennial pick each of the last two years as a place-kicker and a First Team All-Centennial selection as a punter in 2005, Scott is 3-for-5 on field goals this season and is averaging 42.0 yards per punt.
