Hopkins Places Eight on All-Centennial Football Team

Nov. 12, 2007

LANCASTER, PA - The Johns Hopkins football placed eight players on the 2007 All-Centennial Conference Football Team it was announced Monday afternoon by Steve Ulrich, Executive Director of the league. The Blue Jays counted two first team selections and placed three players on the second team and honorable mention lists.

Senior defensive back Richard Hill (Huntington Station, NY/St. Anthony's) and freshman place-kicker Alex Lachman (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) were the two first team selections for the Blue Jays, while a trio of sophomores - running back Andrew Kase (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing), linebacker Colin Wixted (Lafayette Hill, PA/St. Joe's Prep) and offensive lineman Michael Stoffel (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) - grabbed second team honors. Senior wide receiver Corey Sattler (Monroeville, PA/Gateway), senior linebacker Adam Winter (Berwick, PA/Berwick) and senior defensive back Dan Requena (Fairlawn, NJ/Fairlawn) earned honorable mention status.

Hill enjoyed a standout campaign at cornerback for the Blue Jays as he posted a career-high 60 tackles to finish fourth on the team overall and first among defensive backs. He added a team-high eight pass breakups, 2.5 tackles for losses, one forced fumble and one blocked extra point. In addition, he returned the opening kickoff in JHU's season-ending win at McDaniel 90 yards for touchdown. The 90-yard return is the fourth-longest on record in school history. Hill's selection marks the sixth straight year Johns Hopkins has placed a defensive back on the first team and the 16th time a Hopkins defensive back has earned First Team All-Centennial honors since the league was formed in 1983.

Lachman made an immediate splash this season and was the only freshman in the league to earn All-Centennial honors. He was 23-of-23 on extra points and 11-of-12 on field goals, including 10-of-11 from outside 30 yards and 4-of-5 from outside 40 yards. His 11 field goals are a JHU freshman record and rank as the fifth-highest single-season total in school history. He broke the Centennial Conference season record for field goal percentage (91.7%) and his 56 points are tied for the third-highest season total in school history by a kicker. He tied the JHU single-game record with four field goals against Moravian and set a school record with 15 kick-scoring points against the Greyhounds. Lachman's selection continues Hopkins' trend of standout kickers. The Blue Jays have landed the First Team All-Centennial place-kicker six times since 1995 and JHU's place-kicker has earned first or second team honors 11 times since 1994.

Kase established himself as one of the top young running backs in the league with a breakout campaign. Despite missing one full game and most of another, he rushed for a team-high 1,009 yards and five touchdowns and added 23 receptions for 212 yards and four more touchdowns. His 1,009 yards rank as the second-highest single-season total in school history and his 112.1 yards per game ranks fourth in JHU history. He tied the school record with six 100-yard rushing games and totaled a career-high 227 yards and one touchdown in the season-finale against McDaniel. The 227-yard effort is fourth-best in school history. Kase's 1,221 all-purpose yards rank seventh all-time at Hopkins and he is the 14th Blue Jay running back to earn All-Centennial honors. He is the first sophomore running back in school history to earn All-Centennial.

Wixted emerged as one of the top young defensive players in the league as a freshman last season and continued his development this year as the leader of the Blue Jay defense. He paced the team in tackles (81), tackles for losses (16.5) and sacks (5.5) and added four pass breakups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He posted a career-high 14 tackles against Gettysburg, now has 123 tackles in two seasons and was one of just two sophomore defensive players in the league to earn first or second team honors. His selection runs JHU's streak of consecutive years with a linebacker earning All-Centennial honors to 15 years. A Hopkins linebacker has earned first or second team All-Centennial honors in each of the last eight years.

Stoffel was a key member of a Johns Hopkins offensive line that will return all five starters next season. He started all 10 games at left tackle this season after starting the final four games of his freshman year at guard. Stoffel helped pave the way for sophomore Andrew Kase to rush for more than 1,000 yards and the Blue Jay offense, which featured just one senior starter, averaged 145.1 yards per game on the ground and 164.2 yards through the air. Hopkins averaged 21.2 points per game and JHU has now produced a first or second team All-Centennial offensive lineman every year since 1989.

Sattler quietly enjoyed one of the most productive careers ever by a Johns Hopkins wide receiver. Despite missing the first two games of the season, he led the team in receptions (44) and receiving yards (611) and finished in the top four in the Centennial in receptions and receiving yards per game. He closes his career ranked ninth in school history in receptions (97) and receiving yards (1,383) and his 14.3 yards per reception ranks among the top 10 in school history among players with more than 1,000 receiving yards.

Winter played a majority of the 2007 season with a broken thumb but still finished second on the team in tackles (68) and tackles for losses (8.0). He added 2.5 sacks, three pass breakups, one forced fumble and one interception. His lone interception on the year came in the final game of his career and he returned it 12 yards for a touchdown against McDaniel. He posted a career-high 13 tackles against Franklin & Marshall this season and ends his career with 138 tackles to his credit.

Requena was Johns Hopkins' only returning All-Centennial performer after garnering honorable mention status a year ago. He finished seventh on the team in tackles with a career-high 46 and led the team with five interceptions. He added four pass breakups, 2.0 tackles for losses, one sack, two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. His return of a blocked extra-point against Randolph-Macon was the first successful defensive extra point in school history and he ends his career with 101 tackles and 10 interceptions to his credit. His 10 interceptions are tied for eighth in school history.
