BALTIMORE, MD - The #26 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Centennial Conference with an 8-1 win over Gettysburg on Wednesday afternoon. Hopkins improves to 8-2 overall while Gettysburg falls to 0-1 on the season.
The Blue Jays swept all three doubles matches to take the early lead in the contest. Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) defeated Ali Moyer and Rachel Steel 8-4 at first doubles. Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) and Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) followed that up with a 8-2 win at second doubles over Brooke Ranson and Kelly Eurich. Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and Ellen Berlinghof (Ft. Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) completed the doubles sweep with a 8-1 victory over Laura Helland and Kristen Zielinkski.
In singles play, Matava extended her win streak to two with a 6-0, 6-3 defeat of Moyer. At second singles it was Bhamidipati with the 6-0, 6-1 victory over Steel. Schubert was victorious over Eurich, 6-4, 6-1. Gulnik won her third straight singles match with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Ranson. Gettysburg recorded its lone point of the match with Shelly Gottesfeld's 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 victory over Busch. The Blue Jays rounded out singles play with a 6-4, 6-1 win by Berlinghof at sixth singles.
Hopkins returns to action on March 24th when it host Carnegie Mellon at 12 noon.
