BALTIMORE, MD - The #15 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team remained unbeaten in Centennial Conference play Saturday with a 9-0 win over Bryn Mawr. The Blue Jays are now 12-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference. The Owls fall to 3-13 on the season with a 1-7 mark in the conference. Sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won her 11th straight singles match for the Blue Jays.
Hopkins opened up with wins at all three doubles matches. Sophomore Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and Bhamidipati paired at first doubles for an 8-1 win over Stephanie Aspero and Anna Dejdar. The pair are now 11-2 on the season. Junior Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) and freshman Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) defeated Mimi Nguyen and Karen Ginsburg 8-4 at second for their sixth straight win. Freshman Arthika Chandramohan (San Marino, CA/San Marino) and sophomore Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) paired for an 8-1 win at third, beating Marie Sager and Melissa Mansh.
The Blue Jays then swept all six singles matches without losing a set to take the 9-0 win. No.11 Matava won her 16th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ginsburg at first. No.16 Bhamidipati then extended her win streak to 11 straight with a 6-0, 6-1 over Nguyen. It was also her 16th win of the season. No. 21 Schubert won at third over Aspero while losing just one game. Gulnik picked up win #13 at fourth, beating Sager 6-1, 6-2. No. 48 Berlinghof dropped just one game in her win over Mansh at fifth for her 13th win of the season. Sophomore Johanna Sheu (Troy, MI/Troy) closed out the match with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Dejdar at sixth.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 18 when the McDaniel Green Terror visit Baltimore. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at 4:00.
