#15 Hopkins Rolls Past McDaniel, 9-0

BALTIMORE, MD - The #15 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team defeated McDaniel 9-0 Wednesday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The win secured the top seed in next weekend Centennial Conference Championships. The Blue Jays are now 13-3 overall and 9-0 in the conference with one match left to play. The Green Terror remain winless at 0-8 overall and in the Centennial.

Hopkins opened the match with wins at all three doubles matches. Freshman Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) and senior Becky Busch (Winnetka, IL/New Trier Township) defeated Kate McLean and Emily Taylor 8-1 at first. Freshman Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and junior Tanya Gulnik (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) shutout Jamie Latham and Georgena Rafes 8-0 at second. It was the pair's 15th win of the season and seventh straight. That leaves them one shy of the school single-season record of 16 doubles wins. Senior Tammy Tran (Chalfont, PA/Central Bucks West) and freshman Jenna Fogel (Bellmore, NY/John F. Kennedy) closed out doubles with an 8-2 win at third.

No.15 Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) won at first singles, without losing a game, over McLean. It was her 12th consecutive win and 17th overall on the season. That leaves her one shy of the school-single season record. No.27 Schubert dropped just one game in her win over Taylor at second. She is now 16-5 on the season. Busch did not loss a game in her win over Becky Parks at third for her 13th win of the season.

Berlinghof dropped just one game in beating Latham at fourth. Freshman Dory Giannos (Darien, CT/Darien) won easily over Rafes at fifth, 6-0, 6-0. Junior Holly Clare (Skillman, NJ/Montgomery) got her first win of the season with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kelly Rampmeyer at sixth.

The Blue Jays close out the regular season on Saturday when they travel to Collegeville, PA. Hopkins match with Ursinus is set to begin at 1:00 pm.
