OWINGS MILLS, MD - The #17 Johns Hopkins field hockey team rolled past FDU-Florham 5-1 in the third place game of the Black-Eyed Susan Tournament Sunday at Villa Julie College. Four different Blue Jays scored in the win, led by junior Leah Horton's (Wayne, PA/Upper Merion Area) two goals. Hopkins is now 2-0 on the season while FDU-Florham falls to 1-1 on the season.

"I am so proud of the effort of this team this weekend," head coach Megan Callahan Fraser commented. "Every player was able to contribute to the win today and maintain a good intensity throughout the game. We played very selflessly and had tremendous balance on the field."

Hopkins took little time jumping on the board with sophomore Andrea Vandersall (Hampton, NH/Winnacunett) scoring just 58 seconds in. She collected a 25-yard pass from junior Adair Landy (Montclair, NJ/Montclair) and swept the ball past Courtney Border for her first of the season. Just 40 seconds later, Horton scored on a hard shot from the top of the circle to give the Blue Jays a 2-0 lead.

Horton found the net again at 11:55, taking a pass from sophomore Brittany Bland (Littleton, CO/Colorado Academy) and firing another hard shot from the top of the circle. Landy and Horton connected at 18:16 to put Hopkins up 4-0. Horton fed the ball to Landy from the right side and she one-timed the ball to the back left corner of the goal for her first of the season.

Coming out of half-time, the Blue Jays once again wasted little time getting on the board. This time it was junior All-American Emily Miller (Garden City, NY/Garden City) who found the net. Vandersall stole the ball from a Devils defender and centered the ball to Miller, who backhanded it in for her third of the season. Christy Barbetto ended sophomore Sophia Tieu's (Cupertino, CA/Cupertino) bid at a shutout, scoring for the Devils at 47:51.

Tieu and the Blue Jays defense had another solid effort for Fraser. Tieu finished with five saves on the afternoon for her second win. Bordner played just 22:48 in goal and made two saves while surrendering four goals. Lauren Wright came on in relief and made five saves while giving up just one goal.

Hopkins returns to action with its first home game of the season on Friday, September 7. Hopkins will face Drew at 7:30 pm at historic Homewood Field, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
