Lachman Named Centennial Special Teams Player of the Week

Sept. 24, 2007

LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins freshman place-kicker Alex Lachman (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) has been named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 44-41 loss to Moravian. The selection is the second of the season for Lachman, who previously garnered the award after a 17-16 win at Hampden-Sydney in the season-opener.

Lachman tied a school record with four field goals (43, 28, 30, 37) and hit all three of his extra points in the game against the Greyhounds. His four field goals tied the Johns Hopkins single-game record, which was previously set by Ben Scott on October 14, 2006 at Gettysburg. In addition, Lachman's 15 points in the game broke the Johns Hopkins single-game kick-scoring record of 13 points. Todd Bencivenni set the previous record of 13 points in a win against Swarthmore on September 19, 1997.

The Blue Jays suffered several key losses to graduation after the 2006 season, none bigger than the loss of Scott, who earned First Team All-America honors as punter and Third Team All-America honors as a place-kicker last season. Lachman has stepped right in and picked up where Scott left off as he is 6-for-6 on field goals and 7-for-7 on extra points through four games. He has a pair of 43-yard field goals this season with the pair ranking as the longest field goals by a freshman at Johns Hopkins in the Jim Margraff era (1990-present).

Lachman currently leads the Centennial Conference in field goals (6), field goals per game (1.5) and field goal percentage (100) and his two 43-yard field goals are the longest by any kicker in the league thus far. He also ranks third in the league in points by a kicker (25) and points per game by a kicker (6.2). He ranks ninth in scoring among all players.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday when the Blue Jays travel to Muhlenberg.
