Lewis Leads Hopkins Past Dickinson, 3-0

BALTIMORE, MD - Junior Amanda Lewis (San Antonio, TX/St. Mary's Hall) posted a double-double with 38 assists and 10 digs to help lead the Johns Hopkins volleyball team past Dickinson, 3-0 on Wednesday night in Baltimore. The Blue Jays (16-3, 2-0 CC) won their fourth straight as Lewis moved into second place on the JHU career assists list with 3,380.

Hopkins jumped out to the early lead in game one with an 8-0 advantage before Dickinson scored a point. The Blue Jays extended their lead to 15-5 and 20-10 before settling for the 30-19 win in game one. In game two it was the Red Devils jumping out to the 2-1 lead. The Blue Jays then rallied off six straight points behind the service game of sophomore Allison Cappelaere (Ellicott City, MD/Centennial) to take a 7-2 lead. Hopkins pushed it game two advantage to 18-13 before Dickinson closed its deficit to 23-20. Hopkins used a couple of service aces from Cappelaere and strong play at the net from junior Kim Jackanich (Pacifica, CA/St. Ignatius College Prep) to capture game two by a score of 30-24. Game three saw the two teams knotted at 6-6 before Hopkins jumped out to the 11-6 lead. Strong play at the net led Hopkins to the 30-19 victory in game three.

Dickinson got 23 digs from Amanda Hayes on the night while Amanda Lehn dished out 23 assists. Elly Gosheva posted 14 kills and 11 digs for the Red Devils.

Lewis and senior Natalia Fijalkowski (Windsor, CA/Windsor) posted double-doubles to lead the Blue Jays to victory. Lewis had 38 assist and 10 digs while Fijalkowski contributed 10 kills and 12 digs. Jackanich led all Blue Jays with 11 kills on the night while Cappelaere posted a team-high 15 digs.

Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, September 29th for a match at Haverford College. Game time with the 11th ranked Fords is set for 1 p.m.
