LANCASTER, PA - Johns Hopkins freshman place-kicker Alex Lachman (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) has been named the Centennial Conference Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in last Saturday's 17-16 win at Hampden-Sydney. Lachman helped the Blue Jays win their season opener for the ninth time in the last 11 years.

Lachman hit both of his extra points and nailed a 43-yard field goal in the third quarter that tied the game at 10-10. The 43-yard field goal is the longest by a freshman during Jim Margraff's tenure as the head coach (1990-present) at Johns Hopkins. No other freshman has hit a field goal from 40 yards or longer since Margraff took over. Lachman's second extra point came with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter after the Blue Jays had pulled even again (16-16) and the successful extra-point proved to be the difference in Johns Hopkins' first one-point win in a season opener since 1949.

Johns Hopkins will host Randolph-Macon on Saturday, September 8 in the 2007 home opener. Kickoff at Homewood Field is scheduled for 1 pm.
