GETTYSBURG, PA - The #14 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team opened its Centennial Conference slate with a 9-0 win at Gettysburg on Thursday afternoon. The Blue Jays move to 2-0 on the season while the Bullets fall to 4-1 overall.
Hopkins opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. Sophomores Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) defeated Ali Moyer and Kelly Eurich 8-3 at first doubles. At second, sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) defeated Katie Taylor and Meghan Kelly by an 8-1 score. And at third, freshmen Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and Julia Guarino (Bradenton, FL/Saint Stephen's Episcopal) won 8-1 over Shelly Gottesfeld and Laura Patterson.
In singles action, Bhamidipati defeated Taylor without dropping a set. Elamire then won at fourth singles, beating Gottesfeld 6-1, 6-1 to clinch the match for Hopkins. Berlinghof and Dwyer won at fifth and second singles respectively by identical 6-1, 6-1 scores. Schubert won at third singles, beating Eurich 7-5, 6-0 with Guarino closing out the match with an 8-3 win over Atlang Mompe.
Hopkins travels to Florida next week for matches against Florida Tech and Flagler. JHU and Florida Tech will square off on Monday, March 17 at 2:30 pm. Hopkins will meet Flagler at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, March 18.
