BRYN MAWR, PA - The #19 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rolled to its 18th straight Centennial Conference win on Saturday, beating Bryn Mawr 9-0. The Blue Jays improve to 11-1 overall and 8-0 in the conference with the win, while the Owls drop to 3-13 and 0-7. For Hopkins it was the fifth consecutive shutout of Bryn Mawr.
Hopkins swept all three doubles matches to take the early 3-0 lead. Sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) beat Karen Ginsburg and Marie Sager 8-3 at first. Freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) and sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) won at second, beating Leah Raj and Anna Dejdar 8-0. And at third, freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and sophomore Amanda Schubert (Richmond, VA/Mills E. Godwin) won 8-1 over April Lee and Melissa Mansh.
In singles action, the Blue Jays swept all six matches in straight sets. At first, Bhamidipati won her ninth straight match with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Ginsburg. Matava improved to 17-7 on the season with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Mimi Nguyen at second. Elamir lost just one game in beating Sager at third to win her 12th straight. Dwyer also lost just one game, winning at fourth over Mansh. Schubert won her 10th match of the season with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Lee at fifth. And at sixth, Berlinghof beat Marianne Leung without losing a game to improve to 12-4 on the year.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, April 16 with a trip to McDaniel. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 3:30 pm.
