BALTIMORE, MD - The #19 Johns Hopkins women's tennis team defeated Washington College 5-2 Tuesday afternoon for its 17th straight Centennial Conference win. The Blue Jays improve to 10-1 overall and 7-0 in the conference while the Shorewomen slip to 10-3 overall and 5-2 in the conference.

Junior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and sophomore Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township High School) improved to 6-0 in the conference, beating Carrie Palmer and Mary Kelly 8-0 at first doubles. Freshman Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) and junior Debbie Blass (Bridgeport, NY/Chittenango) then beat Kate Barston and Kristen Hossick 8-1 at third. Sophomore Ellen Berlinghof (Fort Washington, PA/Upper Dublin) and freshman Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) wrapped up doubles play with a 9-7 win at second over Lydia Bull and Allison Daciek.

At first singles, Daciek pulled the match to 3-1 with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Matava. Bhamidipati moved to 15-2 on the season with a 6-0, 6-1 win at second over Rebecca Davis. Elamir then clinched the match for the Blue Jays with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Palmer at third. It is her 11th straight win and moves her to 13-1 overall. At fourth, Dwyer dropped a 6-3, 6-4 match to Hossick. The final two singles matches, fifth and sixth, were called due to darkness - both were in the third set.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday at Bryn Mawr. The Centennial Conference match is set to begin at noon.
