HopkinsSports.com Mobile Version Now Available

July 17, 2008

The smartphone-friendly version of HopkinsSports.com is essentially the headline content (recaps/releases) and some associated content (html box scores and bios). Because of the dynamic nature of the schedule pages, we are not yet able to provide this content in a smartphone-friendly fashion. However, it is our goal to do so as soon as possible.

"We are thankful to CBS College Sports for developing the technology to extend the reach of the content available on HopkinsSports.com," Johns Hopkins Associate Director of Athletics Ernie Larossa noted. "Our fans and alumni have indicated an interest in this and we anticipate that they will enjoy this service."

How This Works
When a user visits HopkinsSports.com (the front page or any sport page), an auto-detect script will determine what version of the site the user should receive. If the user is coming to HopkinsSports.com via a fully-enabled web browser, then he/she will be delivered the fully-enabled version of the site. If the user is not coming to HopkinsSports.com via a fully-enabled web browser (most smartphones), then he/she will be delivered the smartphone-friendly version of the site.

Special Note
The appearance of the content is going to vary from smartphone-to-smartphone. In our testing, we used a Motorola Q, a Blackberry, a Treo Palm, an IPhone and an HTC Touch. Each presented the content differently but in general, the results were very good. The IPhone actually boasts a fully-enabled web browser and therefore is delivered the fully-enabled version.
