BALTIMORE, MD -- The Johns Hopkins football team, which is currently 10-2 and will play at Wesley (DE) in the NCAA Division III Quarterfinals on Saturday (December 5) jumped from 10th to fourth in this week's ECAC Lambert Meadowlands Division III Football Poll. This is the highest Johns Hopkins has ever been ranked in the poll, which ranks teams in the East in each of the four divisions of the NCAA (FBS, FCS, Division II, Division III). The Lambert Trophy is presented to the top team in each division at the annual Eastern College Football Awards Banquet, which is held at the Meadowlands Sports Complex.
Johns Hopkins was ranked 10th in the poll last week, but a 31-29 upset of previously unbeaten Thomas More helped the Blue Jays to the biggest leap in any of the four Lambert Polls this week. Thomas More was ranked 10th nationally and second in last week's Lambert Poll. Wesley, which is ranked third in the nation, sits atop the Division III Lambert Poll and is followed by Albright and Delaware Valley. Johns Hopkins and Thomas More round out the top five.
Johns Hopkins entered the NCAA Playoffs as the Centennial Conference Champion and upset 14th-ranked Hampden-Sydney, 23-7, on the road in the first round. The Blue Jays did themselves one better with last week's win at 10th-ranked Thomas More as a 43-yard game-winning field goal as time expired provided the winning margin and capped a nine-play, 44-yard drive in the final 51 seconds.
