Johns Hopkins Falls to Georgetown, 7-2

BALTIMORE, MD - The Johns Hopkins women's tennis team opened its spring schedule with a 7-2 loss to Division I Georgetown on Friday night. The Blue Jays are now 0-1 while the Hoyas improve to 2-7.It is the first meeting between the two since 1979 as Hopkins falls to 0-3 to Georgetown.

The Hoyas won at first and second doubles to take at 2-1 lead in the match heading into singles play. Junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) picked up the lone Blue Jay doubles win. The duo defeated Briana Kearney and Jacquie Harrison 8-4 at third doubles.

In singles action, Georgetown swept first through fifth singles to claim the match. While at sixth singles, sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) dropped just one game in beating Lacey Herchek 6-1, 6-0.

Hopkins returns to action on Friday, March 13 at Division II Flagler. The match is slated to begin at 2:00 pm.
