PHOENIX, AZ - The Johns Hopkins baseball team split a doubleheader with Simpson on Saturday, 12-10 and 7-6. The Blue Jays won game one, 12-10 before falling in game two, 7-6. JHU moves to 2-3 on the season as Simpson rises to 6-6 on the season.
In game one, Hopkins led 3-1 after the third inning where Mike Aspegren and John Swarr both hit home runs.
In the fifth inning, the Blue Jays scored four runs to lead 6-1. Swarr, Dan Merzel, James Teta and Todd Emr each scored in the inning.
Simpson scored four in the sixth inning to make a comeback. The two were tied after seven innings and forced an extra stanza.
Brian Youchak and Teta each reached home in the eighth and the Blue Jays went 1-2-3 on defense to secure the 12-10 victory.
Teta had a pair of stolen bases in game one.
In game two, neither team broke the scoreboard until the sixth inning. Simpson would plate six in the sixth inning to lead 6-0. Simpson got another one home in the seventh for a 7-0 lead.
The Blue Jays launched a massive comeback, scoring sixth in the seventh inning, but falling one short.
Chris Huisman, Lee Bolyard, Aaron Borenstein, Emr, D. Kahn and Youchak each scored in the seventh.
Marco Simmons threw 5.1 innings but earned the loss.
