#21 Johns Hopkins Blanks Washington College

CHESTERTOWN, MD - The 21st-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team won five of six singles matches in straight sets en route to a 9-0 win at Washington College in Centennial Conference action Wednesday. The Blue Jays improve to 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the conference, while the Shorewomen drop to 9-2 overall and 1-1 in the Centennial. The win was Hopkins 21st consecutive conference win.

Junior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) and sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) won their third match of the season, beating Carrie Palmer and Gabie Batista 8-0 at second doubles. Junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) then won at third, beating Mary Kelley and Kate Barston 8-1, to improve to 4-1. Senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) wrapped up doubles action with an 8-2 win at first over Brittany Marshall and Jordan Finnegan.

In singles action, Elamir did not drop a set in beating Batista at sixth. Matava then clinched the match for the Blue Jays with a win at fourth. She also did not drop a set in picking up her 60th career win. Matava has won more singles matches then anyone in JHU men's or women's tennis history. Dwyer pushed Hopkins lead to 6-0 with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth over Barston. Warren won her team-best 14th match of the season, winning 6-1, 6-1 at first over Marshall. At third, freshman Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) dropped just one set in beating Palmer. At second, the only match to go three sets, Bhamidipati beat Finnegan to close out the match.

Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, March 28 as the Blue Jays travel to Allentown, PA to take on the Muhlenberg Mules. The Centennial Conference match is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
