BALTIMORE, MD - The eighth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team rolled to its fifth straight win, posting its fifth straight shutout, on Friday with a 9-0 win over McDaniel. The Blue Jays improve to 6-3 on the season with a 5-0 mark in the Centennial Conference. The Green Terror slip to 1-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
At first doubles, senior Brittany Matava (Denver, CO/Littleton) and freshman Mallory Willenborg (Miami Shores, FL/St. Thomas Aquinas) dropped just one game in an 8-1 win over Emily Taylor and Jamie Latham. Junior Dory Giannos (Darien, CT/Darien) and sophomore Alli Lee (Los Angeles, CA/Marlborough) won 8-0 over Caitlin Daniels and Jessica Gelber at third. Junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) gave the Blue Jays a 3-0 lead with an 8-1 win at second over Kristina Shavirov and Devan Hamric.
In singles action, Hopkins swept all six matches in straight sets, dropping just three games. Dwyer won at third, beating Shavirov without dropping a game. Matava then clinched the match for Hopkins with her 6-0, 6-0 win over Latham at second. Willenborg picked up a 6-1, 6-1 win over Taylor at first. Berlinghof followed with a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth over Hamric. At fifth, Giannos swept past Gelber for her second straight win. Lee closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win at sixth over Daniels.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 11 as it travels to Lancaster, PA to take on Franklin & Marshall. The Centennial Conference match is scheduled to start at 11:00 am.
