GETTYSBURG, PA - The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team shut out host Gettysburg, 9-0 on Thursday afternoon to clinch the Centennial Conference regular season title. The Blue Jays improve to 10-3 overall and 9-0 in the Centennial Conference, while the Bullets fall to 7-8 overall and 3-6 in the conference.
In doubles action, Hopkins swept all three matches to take an early 3-0 lead. At first, senior Brittany Matava and freshman Carolyn Warren (Boulder, CO/Fairview) did not drop a game in beating Katie Taylor and Meghan Kelly, 8-0. At third, junior Ellen Berlinghof (Dresher, PA/Upper Dublin) and sophomore Abby Dwyer (Stuart, FL/Jensen Beach) beat Kylle O'Sullivan and Laura Patterson, 8-2, for their ninth straight win. And at second, sophomore Yasmine Elamir (Saddle River, NJ/Heritage Academy (SC)) and junior Anita Bhamidipati (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) won 8-4 over Candice Kashani and Kelly Eurich.
In singles, the Blue Jays combined to win 72 of 75 games in sweeping all six matches. Warren won her team-best 18th singles match, beating Taylor, 6-0, 6-0 at first. At second, Bhamidipati won 6-1, 6-1 over Kashani for her seventh straight win. Matava did not drop a game in her win at third over Eurich. Dwyer turned the same trick at fourth with her win over Kelly. Elamir won her seventh straight with a 6-0, 6-1 win at fifth over O'Sullivan. And at sixth, Berlinghof did not drop a game against Mary McConnell.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday when Haverford visits Baltimore for the regular season finale. The Blue Jays are looking to secure their third straight unbeaten Centennial slate. The match is slated to begin at 11:00 am.
